The Self-Contained Ampoule is a practical method for monitoring sterilization process in liquid loads, where using the paper strips is not possible. The culture medium in the glass ampoule contains a specific population of spores, Geobacillus Stearothermophilus (GS) for Saturated Steam Sterilization. Simply autoclave the ampoule with other loads in the sterilizer.

A clear color change of the culture medium from purple to greenish yellow indicates the inaccuracy in sterilization and spore growth as a consequence.
